In a nice little example of synchronicity, Eric Hobsbawm wrote an article on the Spanish Civil War in the Guardian yesterday where he wrote that in arguments about the legacy of the war, "what was and remains at issue in these debates is what divided Marx and Bakunin". He doesn't offer an easy solution, though his sympathies clearly lie with Marx. Anyway, the article itself can be read here.
In a somewhat related area, my friend Alex Flach just sent me this link, a nice piece by an American law professor making a case for seeing large law firms as a classic example of Marx's theory of surplus value as laid out in volume one of Capital.
